LET GO OF DISTRACTION IN FAVOUR OF CONSCIOUSNESS
Being born from cosmic nothingness and discovering an entire unused universe within. The new Ego Divided single, “Empty Ego”, begins from this vertigo: “you were nothing and you will be nothing”, a sentence that places the human being before their own void and the struggle of choosing a direction that was never truly indicated.
Around them, the noise of the world works by subtraction. “Distract, distract, what they want for you is only distraction”: the gaze is constantly pulled elsewhere, fed with useless elements, while consciousness remains starving. Filling the ego with the wrong things means progressively losing contact with one’s imagination, described in the song as a “divine power”, a faculty capable of generating possibilities and giving substance to dreams.
“Empty Ego” thus becomes a command addressed to oneself: “wake up, wake up your ego”. Look within, face your ghosts, kill your inner king, and persist—even when distraction keeps calling your eyes away. The path sought outside was already hidden within consciousness.
Musically, Ego Divided entrust this mental battle to sharp, technical melodic death metal, with echoes of Necrophagist and Cynic. The more melodic openings, reminiscent of Maiden, reveal a classic sensitivity, expanding the breath of a track nourished by tension, awareness, and cosmic emptiness.
